A Major Win for Hemp Advocacy: Our Voice Reached Congress
Every once in a while, advocacy pays off in a way that reminds you exactly why speaking up matters. This week, I experienced one of those moments — and I’m proud to share it with our community.
After reaching out to Congress about the urgent need to protect the hemp industry, I received a detailed, thoughtful response from a member of Congress. Not a generic thank‑you. Not a form letter. A real acknowledgment of the issues we’ve been fighting for.
Hemp Matters — And They Know It
In the response, the representative made it clear: hemp is not just another crop. It’s a legal, vital part of the American agricultural and economic landscape. Since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp nationwide, the industry has:
-
Created jobs across rural and underserved communities
-
Supported small farms and independent operators
-
Expanded opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovators
-
Strengthened local economies that rely on agricultural diversity
They also recognized something we’ve been shouting from the rooftops: imposing arbitrary THC caps would effectively ban most hemp products currently on the market. And they oppose that.
That alone is a huge win.
Acknowledging the Bigger Picture: Justice, Equity, and Reform
The response didn’t stop at hemp. It addressed the broader reality of cannabis enforcement in the United States — especially how federal prohibition continues to disproportionately harm communities of color.
The representative emphasized that decriminalizing cannabis is essential for racial and economic justice. Reform laws may exist in 47 states, but federal enforcement still creates barriers, prevents equitable participation, and limits access to opportunities in the legal cannabis marketplace.
This is the kind of honesty and clarity we need from lawmakers.
Backing Real Reform
The representative also highlighted their support for major cannabis reform legislation, including:
-
The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act — aimed at ending federal prohibition and addressing past harms
-
The Medical Marijuana and Cannabis Research Expansion Act — expanding scientific research and medical understanding
-
The Medical Marijuana Research Act — supporting safe, regulated study of cannabis
These aren’t small bills. They’re foundational pieces of legislation that shape the future of cannabis and hemp in America.
Why This Matters for Us
Receiving this response wasn’t just a personal win — it’s a win for every farmer, small business, advocate, and consumer who believes in a fair, thriving hemp industry.
It shows that our voices are being heard. It shows that lawmakers are paying attention. It shows that advocacy works.
And honestly? I’m proud. Proud that our message reached the right ears. Proud that our concerns were taken seriously. Proud that we’re part of a movement that’s pushing for real change.
Contact Your Representitives
One year ago, Washington wrote a deadline into law. Since then, the government has contradicted itself, a bipartisan fix has reached Congress, and the Senate has already moved. What happens next is the only part of this story still unwritten and it depends on who speaks up.
You can join our mission at protecting the cannabis industry and the access to it for paitents and citizens all across America. Sign the congressional petition and contact your house representitives by visiting American Healthy Alternatives Association and signing their petition to regulate hemp instead of outright banning it.

If you want to see exactly what was said, I encourage you to read the full response. It’s worth your time — and it’s a reminder that every email, every call, every message matters.
Our work continues, but today, we celebrate a win.
